Our Patented Process

The less mess option.

How our process works

Because there are so few companies currently drilling geothermal loop fields using a directional boring machine, MLA has spent a great deal of time perfecting the patented process and tools we now use to complete jobs. We are able to offer the same results as vertically drilled and slinky (or trenched loops) using a process that is more contained and less invasive.

We begin the drilling process by digging a header pit roughly the size of a sheet of plywood within the property and bore through this pit to install the loops and to complete the home shot. Drilling through this pit allows nearly all drilling fluids and mud to be more contained and keeps them from running throughout the property. All loops are grouted to meet state standards, and this grout is also contained almost entirely within the pit. With the help of a vac truck, fluids and drilling muds are then vacuumed out of the pit and disposed of offsite. Once all headering and required inspections to comply with state laws are completed, the pit is filled back in with dirt.

In addition to the setup that allows jobs to be completed in a cleaner way, we also have the ability to install loops in most cases without needing to affect the existing landscaping. By maneuvering around and underneath obstacles such as trees, we can leave a property in better condition than is possible with the use of a traditional verticle rig.
